Twenty years ago I taught myself to type on Microsoft Windows using an addictive computer game called “Spooky Teaches typing”. Feigning typing class in high school (that was for girls) I never really saw myself needing what has now become a basic life skill.
Nevertheless, still many of my generation and earlier never picked up the skill. There are even a few young ones who still hunt and poke.
OK, those days are now over if you want to have fun and learn to type at the same time. The addictiveness of Spooky is back with the online social game: Typeracer.
Now if you are a hunt and poker, using your index fingers to deftly move about the keyboard, you will quickly find yourself up against stiff competition in this race in Volkswagen Beatle-like cars that will quickly remind you of the speed balloon watergun races at the fair!
If you really want to learn to type, don’t peak at the keys….. use the home row and try to find the courage to trust yourself as you speed down to the wire, typing famous quotes, song lyrics and more . . . I’m going to spend a bit of time here over the next little while to sharpen up my ability to hit the numbers and punctuation keys correctly a bit more often.
I’m toddles if you see me out there on the track, eat my dust!
