We’re excited to have our nature retreat, Northern Edge Algonquin included in the launch of a new travel portal for Whole Travel.
Whole travel is different from most travel portals in that it Gives travel destinations and businesses a ranking on environmental, economic, social and cultural and customer themes, and aims to bring an unbiased review of basic ecotourism values.
The site is also working with local non-profits around the world to verify rating for hotels in their regions. At launch, the site is working with international non-profits like Sustainable Travel International to bring some impartiality to the rankings.
It isn’t clear yet how the traveler will be involved in the site, because after all, it’s sites like TripAdvisor, chock full of traveller reviews that is still the king when it comes to driving traffic to hotels and restaurants.
Perhaps the sites objectives have more significant impact if major players like TripAdvisor were to integrate such “Green” scores into the ranking of destinations and properties.
Nevertheless, we are happy to see another Web site that promotes travel that is good for the planet and benefits local communities.
