Hey Robert,
Great article. I hope some readers jump over and reflect on the importance of your article.
I sincerely wish I had seen it and been aware of the information you cite. I'm sure there are comments on Youtube that I missed that would have made this evident. After wading through at least a hundred - "Oh wow!, Incredibly True" comments I missed them. I did see a few funny comments there about a certain number of statistics being made up, but I laughed them off.

Indeed social media is important enough without having to inflate actual usage statistics.
Another aspect of social media is gaming the system.... with comment spamming, something I'm sure the makers of the video have the resources to implement. It is rare that I ever see comments that include the word TRUE, so often as in the comments of this video.

Todd,

Please take a look at the blog post I did on the topic of this video: http://www.rockcheetah.com/blog/social-media/socialnomics-should-not-be-voodoo-economics/ - the problem is that a good number of the statistics presented are grossly inaccurate. Also, the work is a gross rip off of the great "Did You Know 3.0" video.

Ironically, this video inadvertently epitomizes the key criticisms of social media - disrespect for intellectual property, irresponsible reporting and a tendency toward hyperbole.

The evangelization of social media is very beneficial pursuit - it's just that social media deserves much better than this.

A number of individuals (including myself) have asked the "author" to update the content and provide appropriate credit to Karl Fisch, et al of the Did You Know series. It does not look like there will be changes - the guy is too busy selling books - I sincerely hope the book was edited more responsibly than the video.
