hi
the travel industry can really benefit from QR Codes, we deal wth Japanese tourists to Australia, instead of an attraction, bus timetable or retailer in Australia providing printed info that goes our of date within weeks, a QR code alllows Japanese to scan a QR code to recieve the transalted info or timetablewith updates. This has saved companies $$$$ in print, plus the information is stored in the phone for later recall. Our tour groups like it because they are not required to carry paper around.
Instead of a tour book we now provide a free power adaptor for their mobile phone. As handheld devices are the product of choice for Japan, providing tourism applications will become more popular.
Interested consumers in Japan can sacn our QR code to view 4 minutes of streaming video of the recent tour and request an application form or tour magazine.

Microsoft tags are probably a better branding effort than QR tags and the pretty little colourful icons might be better received by consumers.
Whatever platform gains most acceptance, I'm sure we'll see posters, signs and other products tagged with both QR and MS Tags.

Product development and marketing folk could of course create one great initiative to take advantage of the systems using one or more tagging systems.

Thanks for commenting.

Hi Todd
There have been some great comments on my blog post about using Microsoft Tag within the travel industry

<a href="http://www.tourcms.com/blog/2009/01/12/using-microsoft-tag-in-the-travel-industry-any-ideas/" rel="nofollow">Microsoft Tag Travel</a>

Still think its technology looking for something to apply it to... but I look forward to some innovative ideas being devised over time.

Cheers. Alex
