Why I’m not using my computer very much these days

by Todd Lucier on August 12, 2008

List of some of the things I used to use my computer for on a daily basis:
Reading and responding to email
Reviewing documents
Reading blogs
Instant messaging staff and family
Checking the weather and news

Now it’s easier and more convenient to do these things during in-between moments of my day instead of time sitting at my desk.
Sitting at the lake, under a tree, in the garden, in my car, and times when I’m just waiting around. Alright and I admit it, sometimes when play is a bit slow on the golf course.

For some readers it won’t be a surprise that the device that is expanding my world and getting me away from my desk is my Iphone.

There are still many things that require sitting at the desk, but lately many of my daily tasks are becoming more mobile and I expect more applications to come along in the near future allowing my office to be anywhere I am.

How will devices like this “phone” change the essence of work? Your thoughts? Are you doing work in new locations?

  • Great example Todd!

Many tourism business are so busy during the summer, they have no time to sit at a computer.

Currently, very few Lodges or Outfitters post to a blog. This strategy of posting pictures and text from a cell phone may make it easy enough that more will start blogging!

I've always been a cell-phone "no way" guy... but this makes me think...

    Many thanks!
