Universal Searchers say “Feed me more Video”

by Todd Lucier on April 9, 2008

A comScore report says when Universal results are shown that include video, video gets shown often, and searchers are interested in seeing it!

To review the data:

  • 1.2 billion queries surveyed, 220 million (17 percent) contained a Universal search results.
  • Within the Universal results, content was distributed as follows
  • Video 38%
  • News 34%
  • Images 19%
  • Multiple placements 15%
  • Maps/Stocks/Weather 10%

Lamberti, a researcher who looked at the data says that there was a higher share of search interest for video with over half the searchers interested in video and less than half interested in all other universal content combined.

There are a number of items that are shown in Universal Search Results including pdf’s, audio files, and more (as shown above) but most people want to see videos and at present, Google is delivering quite a few videos to searchers.

What are you doing to:

  • get the video you need?
  • distribute it across the Web?
  • optimize it so it gets found in search?
  • Videos are fantastic because people don't like to read.

There's the sad fact that 55% of high school graduates never finish another book in their lifetime, but there's much more.

The videos with music and naration have an emotional impact that is more likely to encourage the viewer to take action.

While it's easy to edit a video with Windows Movie maker - it is rather time consuming.

However, the ongoing benefit and resulting action you get from prospective clients, certainly makes the effort or making the video worth your while.

They don't have to be long, just 30 seconds to 2 mintues, and they require a strong call to action at the end of the video.

I'd like to thank Todd for giving all of us a nudge to work harder in this area!
