Travel Intentions for Ontario – a U.S. Market Overview

by Todd Lucier on April 14, 2008

Over the past few years, the number of U.S. travellers to Canada and specifically Ontario has dropped significantly (42% drop from 2004-2007).  With over 50% of U.S. travellers less inclined to visit Canada, a combination of factors is conspiring to make wooing U.S. travellers difficult.  60% of survey respondents in Buffalo indicated that delays at the border were a problem, while 42% indicated passports were going to make them less inclined to visit Ontario this summer.

On the positive side for readers of this blog, 68% of U.S. travellers use the Web to plan leisure travel and 61% are most likely to book their pleasure trips online.  Also, 30% are likely to make last minute travel plans.

The most popular reason for visiting Ontario?  Nature and Parks.
