by Todd Lucier on March 30, 2008

Universal Results, it changed the search landscape when Google started showing photos, videos, pdf’s, maps and the like in the main body of search results along with web pages. The challenge is how do you get your videos to show up in relevant search results . . .

The answer is use a sitemap to give text descriptions of your videos to Google. That way, when a user searches for any given topic, your Web pages featuring video have a much better chance of showing up in the search results . . . and hey, don’t you think someone searching might like to click on a video in search results? 10 Billion videos are watched online each month. . . and growing.

What are you waiting for…. get your account set up at Google Webmaster tools and create a Video sitemap!

    Hello, Excellent post!

I like how you point out that sitemaps are important not just for normal website pages to appear in search engines, but also for video pages. This is one method that is often overlooked as sitemaps are not updated as often as they should be when new content is added to a website.

    Great post!
